Hi! I’m Molly. In today’s lesson, I want to discuss the reason why we choose to learn before I begin teaching the language. So what is your reason? I am proud to be Cambodian. I want to communicate with family and friends. I just love love love speaking and reading in Khmer. Writing in Khmer still stresses me out. So, I’m trying and I hope that you try too!
Did you know that Khmer is the biggest language in the world? I remember being sad when another Cambodian said that Khmer wasn’t a beautiful language. She is wrong. All languages are beautiful, especially our own. I will try my best to share what I know and we can all learn together.
The first consonant of the alphabet is ក. It is pronounced Gaw and it makes the G- sound. ក also means neck in Khmer. So when you want to say neck, all you have to say is Gaw! Easy, right? I just wanted to start off with an easy first lesson. It may get difficult from here, but I hope that you never give up!
Thank you for tuning in.
Love, Molly
